A company is said to be in good standing if it is either registered with or chartered by a government agency such as Companies House. This is possible if the firm has duly filed all the necessary paperwork and has paid all the fees due to its charter or the renewal. The company may avail a certificate, from the Companies House, if the company is in good standing with them and hence the certificate is an indicator of it.
If you want to open a bank account, the bank makes it mandatory for every firm to present a good standing certificate from the Companies House. In addition, if a limited liability company or a corporation wants to register in a foreign country as a foreign corporation, they will have to provide a certificate of good standing copy to its home jurisdiction.
